Pharmacy Students Sponsor 'Be the Match' Marrow Registry Drive

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 3, 2014) — Every four minutes someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer, and often the cure to these cancers can be found through a bone marrow transplant. "Be the Match" is a nonprofit organization operated by the National Marrow Donor program. 

The Kentucky Alliance of Pharmacy Students at the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy has partnered with Be the Match to host on-campus drives to add students and members of the community to the national bone marrow registry.

Through fundraising efforts, joining the registry is free and is as simple as the completion of paperwork and a quick cheek swab! By choosing to join, you are signing up for the opportunity to be someone’s cure. Here are a few upcoming events where you can join the registry:

                                                          

Zumbathon Charity Event benefiting Be the Match

Sunday, March 9 from 6-8 p.m.

University of Kentucky Seaton Center

Tickets are $5 at the door (cash/card accepted)

All proceeds go toward donor registration for Be the Match

Be the Match Drive at the Johnson Center

Thursday, March 13 from 4-9 p.m.
