LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 19, 2022) — University of Kentucky employees are invited to attend the 2022 UK Appreciation Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, May 26 at the Gatton Student Center (GSC). This year’s event will take place outside, weather permitting. If the weather does not permit, it will take place inside the GSC.

Supervisors are encouraged to adjust schedules accordingly without requiring leave to be utilized. UK HealthCare employees should notify their supervisors in advance if they would like to attend, so schedules can be adjusted accordingly not to impact patient care.

All Appreciation Day activities are free and include:

  • Lunch (to be picked up in Ballroom A of the GSC)
  • Bluegrass Photobooth
  • Caricatures with About Faces Entertainment
  • Games and inflatables (inflatables on Stoll Field – adjacent to the GSC)
  • Riptide Productions karaoke (on Stoll Field)
  • Outdoor seating for dining (on Stoll Field)
  • UK Department and Vendor Exhibits immediately behind the GSC

Employees can join UK HR Health and Wellness for opportunities to relax as well as have fun — no special equipment or clothing are needed.

Parking at the Gatton Student Center is limited so employees are encouraged to utilize UK’s on-campus bus routes which can be seen here. UK Appreciation Day attendees may utilize the Blue Route and White Route provided by Lextran.

Campus buses can be tracked in real-time using the TransLoc Rider app on iPhone and Android devices or by visiting the website here, allowing users to plan for delays caused by traffic, accidents or inclement weather.

T-shirt Distribution

Department order T-shirt distribution is scheduled for Tuesday, June 7. Pickup locations will be at Kroger Field and UK HealthCare PAV A. Department order contacts received emails on Thursday, May 5, that contained the confirmation number and they will receive an additional email on June 2 with pickup instructions. Pickup instructions will be based on the pickup location selected when the order was placed earlier in the year. You must have your confirmation number and UK ID to pick up your departmental T-shirt order. No individual shirts will be available on June 7. Pickup is limited to orders previously placed.

The University of Kentucky is increasingly the first choice for students, faculty and staff to pursue their passions and their professional goals. In the last two years, Forbes has named UK among the best employers for diversity, and INSIGHT into Diversity recognized us as a Diversity Champion four years running. UK is ranked among the top 30 campuses in the nation for LGBTQ* inclusion and safety. UK has been judged a “Great College to Work for" three years in a row, and UK is among only 22 universities in the country on Forbes' list of "America's Best Employers."  We are ranked among the top 10 percent of public institutions for research expenditures — a tangible symbol of our breadth and depth as a university focused on discovery that changes lives and communities. And our patients know and appreciate the fact that UK HealthCare has been named the state’s top hospital for five straight years. Accolades and honors are great. But they are more important for what they represent: the idea that creating a community of belonging and commitment to excellence is how we honor our mission to be not simply the University of Kentucky, but the University for Kentucky.
