Whole Foods Pledges 5% of Day's Sales to Markey

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 29, 2010) — Whole Foods Market at Lexington Green has chosen the Markey Cancer Center's Race for Women's Cancer as the beneficiary of its quarterly 5 percent contribution day.

On Thursday, April 1, Whole Foods Market at Lexington Green will contribute 5 percent of the day’s sales to the Markey Race for Women's Cancer, a benefit for the Markey Cancer Center Gynecologic Cancer Patient Advocacy Fund. Every sale made that day from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. will count toward Whole Foods' contribution.

The Markey Race for Women’s Cancer was founded in 2009 in honor of all of the patients in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology at the Markey Cancer Center. After a diagnosis of a gynecologic cancer, patients are faced with many questions and decisions. From diagnosis to remission, surgery to chemotherapy, the Gynecologic Oncologist provides the guidance and expertise to help patients through these difficult times and is crucial to overall survival.

This year's Race begins at 7 a.m. June 27 at Historic Spindletop Hall and will feature a Sprint Triathlon, a Duathlon and a 5K fun run/walk.  For more information about the race, including how to register, donate or volunteer, please visit www.markeyraceforwomenscancer.com.
