UK HealthCare hosting ‘Be Healthy Bash’ in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 7, 2024) — UK HealthCare is inviting community members to kick off the summer with the ‘Be Healthy Bash.’ The free festival will take place at the Fayette County Extension Office on Harry Sikes Way in Lexington from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., June 8. This event will focus on your entire well-being with information and activities around nutrition, fitness and emotional wellness.

Activities will include health screenings, health and wellness resources, free food, vaccinations, cooking demonstrations, taste testing, emotional wellness activities and physical activities and games. Additionally, there will be inflatables (both kid and adult friendly), a petting zoo, safety education at Safety City, a smoothie bike, meet and greet with UK’s Wally Cat, live music and more.

“When we at the Barnstable Brown Diabetes Center first began thinking of a community event, the goal was to provide people with access to healthy foods like fruits and vegetables and help them understand that eating well and being active are achievable no matter who you are,” said Kristen Stakelin, M.D., medical director at BBDC. “We're excited that the Be Healthy Bash now offers a wide range of health and wellness services beyond our original vision. I hope so many in the community take advantage of this positive 'Be Healthy' event.”

This fun-filled event is presented by UK HealthCare and University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service in Coordination with:

  • UK Barnstable Brown Diabetes Center
  • UK HealthCare's Healthy Kentucky Initiative
  • Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government
  • Fayette County Extension Office
  • Many other UK HealthCare, University of Kentucky and community partners

“The Be Healthy Bash is really a showcase of everything the University of Kentucky has to offer the community around healthy living. It is a wonderful example of leveraging the experts we have across campus to give back to our community and help create a healthier Kentucky,” said Trudi Matthews, UK HealthCare’s chief of Value-Based Programs, Public Policy and Community Initiatives.
