UK HealthCare’s Obstetrics Emergency unit to open April 30

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 25, 2025) – On April 30, UK HealthCare will open Obstetrics (OB) Emergency, a specialized hospital unit for patients experiencing urgent issues related to their pregnancy. OB Emergency will provide 24/7 emergency care for pregnant and postpartum patients and will be staffed by UK HealthCare providers who can address conditions such as preterm labor, pre-eclampsia and bleeding. UK HealthCare was recently designated a Level IV facility by the Joint Commission and is equipped to provide expert and compassionate care for critically ill and high-risk maternity patients.
Patients who are experiencing emergent symptoms related to their pregnancy — including but not limited to pain, cramping, bleeding or injury to the abdomen — should seek care at OB Emergency. For nonemergent pregnancy-related issues, patients should contact their obstetrician for further guidance. For illness or injury not related to pregnancy, such as minor injuries, minor sprains or strains or cold and flu symptoms, patients should seek care at the closest urgent care or consult with their primary care provider.
The OB triage center is no longer operational. Patients who previously sought care there should contact their obstetrician or go to OB Emergency for continued support.
Visits to OB Emergency are covered by insurance, with required co-pays due at the time of service. Patients should contact their insurance companies with questions about copays, coverage and billing. Learn more about UK HealthCare’s polices on insurance and billing.
UK HealthCare’s OB Emergency is located on the third floor of Albert B. Chandler Hospital Pavilion H, just outside the Labor & Delivery unit. For directions or assistance, visit the information desk inside the hospital, or ask one of the service ambassadors in the parking garage.
