Active Shooter Forums Open to Campus Community

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 18, 2013) ― If an active shooter invades the University of Kentucky campus, UK Police are trained and know how to respond, and they want to share important information with the rest of the campus community about how to react to such an incident.

The UK Police Department and the Division of Student Affairs are presenting two Active Shooter Forums this semester for students, faculty and staff.  The first forum takes place 2:30-5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, in Center Theater in the UK Student Center.  The second forum is planned for 2:30-5:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 20 in Worsham Theater in the Student Center.

"While the possibility of being involved in an active shooter incident on campus may be remote, the consequences could be catastrophic," says UK Police Chief Joe Monroe.  "That's why it is important to spend time now thinking and preparing for it."

In this forum, the UK Police Department’s specialized instructors will prepare students, faculty, and staff to have a survival mindset, train participants how law enforcement will respond to an active shooting situation, and discuss what pre-incident behaviors of concern are.
