Celebrate Valentine's Day 'After Dark'

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 9, 2010) − Join the University of Kentucky Choirs’ premiere a cappella groups, Paws and Listen and the acoUstiKats for "Paws and Kats After Dark," an annual event that has quickly become one of the most popular concerts at UK. This Valentine's Day concert is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, at Worsham Theater in the UK Student Center.

Featuring the acoUstiKats and Paws and Listen, as well as a post-show dessert reception, "Paws and Kats After Dark" is one of the best Valentine’s Day concerts in town and a unique and entertaining evening for guests of all ages. Showtime for this concert is 7 p.m. The event's dessert reception immediately follows the show, courtesy of UK Catering Services and the Office of the Student Center Director.

A select a cappella ensemble of 16 voices from UK Men’s Chorus make up the acoUstiKats. The singers perform numerous concerts each semester for university, church and community functions, as well as at every Men’s Chorus concert. Specializing in doo-wop and a cappella pop styles, they have recorded two CDs and are one of the university’s most visible ensembles. These dedicated students have performed at dozens of prestigious events on campus and throughout the state of Kentucky. In 2007 the acoUstiKats were featured at the Kentucky Derby Gala celebration at the Governor’s Mansion, and in 2006 they were selected to perform at the Kentucky Music Educators Association state conference. The acoUstiKats also frequently perform at elementary and middle schools throughout Kentucky.

Paws and Listen is an a cappella singing group of 16 women auditioned from the UK Women's Choir. The singers perform pop music, as well as a mix of doo-wop, vocal jazz and show tunes. The ensemble is coached by undergraduate music education majors and advised by Lori Hetzel, associate director of Choirs/Choral Music Education. Paws and Listen performs for numerous prestigious events throughout the year and is often featured at high profile events at Maxwell Place, the home of the UK President.

Tickets for "Paws and Kats After Dark" are $10 for adults and senior citizens, and $5 for UK students and children.
