Severe Winter Weather and Update of UK Alerts

Monday, December 12, 2016

As the winter season approaches, it is important that the university community is familiar with our policies and procedures for severe winter weather and other university emergencies.

In general, UK’s policy is to keep all offices open and classes meeting as scheduled except under extraordinary weather conditions. On rare occasions, it may be necessary to alter the University schedule.  All faculty, staff and students should note that announcements regarding cancelation of classes and closure of offices, or a delayed opening will normally be made by 6 a.m.

Details about the University’s severe weather procedures can be found at http://www.uky.edu/PR/News/severe_weather.htm.

The UK Alert notification system, is activated in times of University closings, delays, early dismissals and other major emergencies.

I ask all members of our UK family to Log in to myUK to review and update their UK Alert account. Employees click the Employee Self-Service tab, then choose the UK Alert option.  Students click the Student Services tab and select the link for UK Alert.

During emergencies, you can find the most up-to-date information in the following places:

Here’s wishing our students, faculty and staff a safe and happy end to the fall semester.
