Arrest Made in Indecent Exposure Case on UK Campus

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 9, 2013) ― A University of Kentucky Police investigation has led to the arrest of a man in connection with multiple indecent exposure incidents that have been reported over the last month on UK's campus.  Vijay Kumar Matta, 34, of Frankfort, was arrested yesterday by Frankfort Police on a warrant issued in Fayette County.

Matta has been charged with one count of indecent exposure.  He is on probation for a similar crime in Monroe, Ohio.

Public Safety Notices were issued to UK's campus community April 5, 7, and 19, following the report of indecent exposure incidents involving a man matching Matta's description.  In most incidents the man was driving a car matching the description of his gray Honda Accord and asking female students for directions, at which time he exposed himself when the victims approached his car.

Upon sighting a gray Honda Accord not using traffic signals when making turns in the Columbia Avenue area May 1, UK Police questioned the driver, Matta, who matched the description given by victims in the indecent exposure reports.  After further investigation and discussion with the victims, UK Police conducted a photo line-up, and a victim positively identified Matta.  An arrest warrant was issued Tuesday, May 7 and Matta was arrested May 8.
