Center for Graduate and Professional Diversity Initiatives Opens Additional Location in the Gillis Building

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 22, 2017) – Last semester, the Center for Graduate and Professional Diversity Initiatives (CGD) expanded its mission to support the recruitment and retention of students of color from all graduate and professional programs. With this expansion, CGD will be opening an additional campus location in suite 10 in the lower level of the Gillis Building. The current CGD office is located in 307A in the College of Nursing. The grand opening for the new Gillis Building location will be tomorrow, Thursday, Feb. 23 from 2-4 p.m in suite 10 of the Gillis Building. CGD will celebrate with a dessert social. All faculty, staff and students are invited to attend.

"I am enthusiastic about the potential for building greater collaborations across campus with all disciplines and continuing to reserve a space at the university where graduate students can seek community, encouragement and support,” said Chassity Holliman-Douglas, director of the Center for Graduate and Professional Diversity Initiatives.

During the grand opening, guests will have the opportunity to meet the CGD staff, see the new vibrant student-centered space — equipped a computer lab and study area.

Guests will also learn about CGD’s signature programs and initiatives including:

  • TGIF (Thank Goodness It’s Friday)
  • Faculty and Students of Color Mentoring Mixer
  • Graduate Diversity Organizations Collective
  • Graduate Students of Color Professional Development Colloquium
  • Feast Before Finals
