Message from vice president for student success: We are here for you

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 8, 2022) — University of Kentucky Vice President for Student Success J. Kirsten Turner sent a message to UK students on Thursday, Sept. 8. You can read that message below.

 

Dear UK Students,

Early this morning, University of Kentucky police reported arrests were made in connection with an altercation at a house party late last night. The incident took place near campus, a single shot was fired and one student sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Multiple students also sustained non-life-threatening injuries from shrapnel.

This is an active investigation, but due to the nature of the incident and its proximity to our campus and our people, it is important we communicate directly with you.

Our Dean of Students was on the scene immediately following the incident and continues to reach out to students who may have been impacted. We are grateful to hear the students who were directly impacted are safe and those who were injured are recovering.

The Office for Student Success is mobilized to support you as you navigate this and other challenges. We are thankful for everyone who responded so quickly to the incident. This is a community that cares. I urge you to use the support services that are in place, whenever and wherever you need them.
