Save the date: DanceBlue 2024 set for April 6-7
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 19, 2024) — The University of Kentucky DanceBlue marathon will take place Saturday, April 6 to Sunday, April 7.
Each year in the spring, UK students gather to stand for 24 hours to support the patients in the DanceBlue Kentucky Children’s Hospital Hematology/Oncology Clinic. Leading up to the dance marathon, students fundraise year-round for their chance to dance.
This year, the organization will celebrate its 19th marathon. More than 100 student committee members, along with hundreds of student ‘dancers’ work year-round to raise funds and share the mission to spread joy.
"Every spring I'm in awe of the joy surrounding marathon season as our campus and community come together to support the kids and families in the DanceBlue Clinic," said Caroline Sumner, DanceBlue overall chair. "DanceBlue 2024 will be exciting, joy-filled, and meaningful. I'm so excited to see the culmination of this year’s fundraising and planning efforts as we continue to fight the battle against pediatric cancer and honor the dream of Jarrett Mynear."

The money raised through DanceBlue fundraising efforts is donated to the Golden Matrix Fund, established to support the kids of the DanceBlue Kentucky Children’s Hospital Hematology/Oncology Clinic both today and well into the future through an endowment. DanceBlue funds also support the yearlong fundraising engine and operations that underpin the mission, as well as providing funds to support research at the UK Markey Cancer Center.
As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.
In 2022, UK was ranked by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads” and named a “Diversity Champion” by INSIGHT into Diversity, a testament to our commitment to advance Kentucky and create a community of belonging for everyone. While our mission looks different in many ways than it did in 1865, the vision of service to our Commonwealth and the world remains the same. We are the University for Kentucky.
