UK joins national initiative focused on advancing student success

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 22, 2026) — The University of Kentucky is joining colleges and universities across the country in a new national effort focused on helping students reach their full potential during college and beyond.
The National Student Success Project, launched today, brings together higher education institutions around five core commitments focused on the value and affordability of higher education, academic excellence, career preparation and creating supportive campus communities. UK President Eli Capilouto is among 19 college and university presidents and chancellors serving on the project’s national advisory board.
UK is also among the colleges and universities participating in the initiative at its launch. The project recognizes that although institutions differ in size, mission and approach, they share a responsibility to help students succeed and to continually learn, innovate and improve.
That commitment is central to UK’s approach to student success. Student success is a campus-wide responsibility, with faculty and staff across the university contributing to a culture that puts students first. Grounded in research, national best practices and data-informed decision-making, UK takes a holistic approach to supporting students from early college outreach through graduation and beyond, helping them achieve their goals and build lives of meaning and purpose.
The National Student Success Project calls on participating institutions to:
- Deliver strong value for students’ investment in education.
- Empower students with clear and affordable pathways to a degree or other significant credential.
- Advance academic excellence with innovative programs and strong teaching.
- Connect students with real-world career experiences and guidance.
- Cultivate communities that support students while promoting civil dialogue and respect for others.
Five national higher education associations are helping launch the project: the American Association of Community Colleges, American Association of State Colleges and Universities, American Council on Education, Association of American Universities, and Association of Public and Land-grant Universities. The Strada Education Foundation supports the project.
