LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 20, 2024) — The Staff Senate has been hard at work planning the annual Employee Appreciation Day at the University of Kentucky; the event is getting bigger and even better than before.

The annual campus event will be held 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. Thursday, May 23, outside The 90, 440 Hilltop Ave., and in the William T. Young Library parking lot. This year's event promises to be filled with fun and excitement in a street fair atmosphere, featuring food, bingo, live music featuring Zack Attack, caricature artists, yard games and activities for everyone to enjoy. The event will carry on rain or shine. Vendor tables will be set up throughout the outdoor areas and food will be served inside. In the case of severe weather, any change in schedule will be communicated via email to employees and on this page.

New this year: The Kentucky Blood Center mobile will be onsite all day with special giveaways for those who donate blood. Help UK reach its goal of 25 pints donated! Walk-in donors will be accepted but you can schedule your donation time here to avoid the line and have time to enjoy the festival.

If you cannot attend in person, or if one day of celebration is not enough, join the festivities online May 20-22 to participate in virtual activities to relax, connect with others and take some time to focus for your own well-being. The schedule of sessions, and links to register, can be found here.

T-Shirt distribution this year will happen on May 21 at Kroger Field for campus employees and on May 29 (after Appreciation Day) in Karpf Auditorium for UK HealthCare employees. Individuals do not need to pick up their T-Shirts. Department contacts have been emailed to schedule their pickup times. Any questions regarding this can be emailed to UKAD@uky.edu

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.

In 2022, UK was ranked by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads” and named a “Diversity Champion” by INSIGHT into Diversity, a testament to our commitment to advance Kentucky and create a community of belonging for everyone. While our mission looks different in many ways than it did in 1865, the vision of service to our Commonwealth and the world remains the same. We are the University for Kentucky.
