LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 14, 2017) — K Week, the official welcome back week at the University of Kentucky each fall semester, is in need of faculty and staff volunteers to assist with K Week events. More information about activities can be found at www.uky.edu/KWeek. An easy way to get K Week information on the go is to download the UK Guides mobile app to access a full schedule of events, maps, and more.
Two major events that faculty and staff may be interested in helping with are the Parents and Families Reception and Super Start.
The Parents and Families Reception is from 7-9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, in Starbucks at W.T. Young Library. Families are invited to an informal reception while students participate in the K Week Kick-off. Families of new students will be able to meet faculty, staff, administrators, and UK Parent Advisory Council members. They’ll be able to learn more about the Parent & Family Association, purchase tickets to some Family Weekend events, and participate in Letters from Home.
The UK Parent & Family Association needs volunteers who can greet guests, mingle, and answer any questions the families may have. To volunteer for this event, please click here.
Super Start provides the opportunity to welcome students and assist them by answering their questions and providing directions to classes and other campus locations. Super Start will take place during the first two days of classes, Aug. 23 and 24.
Three information tables will be set up at the following locations: (1) Wildcat Alumni Plaza near Bowman’s Den, (2) the sidewalk near the White Hall Classroom Building facing the Ralph G. Anderson Building and (3) outside the Mining and Minerals Building on Rose Street near the sidewalk to the W.T. Young Library. The tables will be in operation from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Volunteers are needed to staff these information tables and provide directions to students.
To sign up for a shift as a Super Start volunteer, please click the links below for which day/location you would be willing to volunteer. Sign up by entering your name and selecting the time(s) you could work then click “Save.” After two people are set for a given slot, it will be closed and unavailable. Please email KWeek@lsv.uky.edu if you have any difficulty.
