Winter Clothing Donations Requested for UK Students in Need

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 2, 2014) — The "International Experience in Agriculture: Service Learning in Mexico" class is collecting cold weather clothing items to benefit University of Kentucky students and others in the Lexington community.

Volunteers from the class are accepting clothing donations through Friday, Dec. 5, in Room N8 of the Agricultural Science Center North.  They suggest new or gently used and clean coats, hats, gloves and scarves in all sizes, including children's sizes.

For those who would like to donate but cannot go to the Agricultural Science Center North, please email Amanda Saha, director of the Office of Career Development and Enrichment in the College of Agriculture, Food and Environment, at amanda.saha@uky.edu or call 859-257-3468 to arrange a pick up. A student will come to a campus location to take the donation.

The donated clothing is being made available to UK students this week in Room N8 of the Agricultural Science Center North. UK faculty and staff who work with any student, including international students, who might be unprepared for the severe cold weather this season may bring, are asked to encourage students to pick up clothing for themselves and their family members. Clothing distribution hours are 5-7 p.m. today through Thursday, Dec. 4, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5.  A valid UK ID will be needed, or a faculty sponsor to a graduate student may also pick up items.

This process will be supervised by Saha and Jamie Dunn, student affairs officer in the College of Agriculture, Food and Environment, in collaboration with members of the class.

After Dec. 5, any remaining items will be donated to the Salvation Army.
