LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 17, 2016) — For the 11th consecutive year, the University of Kentucky Office of Philanthropy has achieved the $1 million mark in pledges made through its phonathon program.

According to Anne Lichtenberg, director of annual giving at UK, this week the phonathon successfully attracted over $1 million in pledges from “thousands of gifts from UK’s alumni, parents and friends.”

Lichtenberg said UK began routinely breaking the $1 million mark in fiscal year 2006. Since then, the phonathon has raised more than $14 million in support for the university.

“President Capilouto reminds us that UK continues to have great promise for the future of the Commonwealth as we provide exceptional academic programs and experiences for Kentucky’s most gifted students," said Mike Richey, vice president for philanthropy at UK. "Thanks to our phonathon donors, we can continue his vision at the University for Kentucky. Thousands of UK students will directly benefit from our phonathon donors’ generous support and for this we are most grateful.

“Furthermore, we deeply appreciate the invaluable service of our annual giving staff and the 60 student callers who took pledges from the University of Kentucky’s highly supportive and loyal alumni, parents and friends. You can’t help but be moved by the support our university receives from so many who truly love and believe in UK and its mission as Kentucky’s land-grant institution.”
