KSBDC Consultants Earn Export, Trade Certification

LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 20, 2012) — Thirty-one Kentucky Small Business Development Center (KSBDC) staff and consultants have passed the intermediate level of the Small Business Administration (SBA) Export and Trade Counseling exam to satisfy a requirement set forth by the Small Business Jobs Act of 2010.

Along with the certification of KSBDC consultants, the KSBDC has launched a suite of services designed to help a business owner enter into the exporting arena. These services include:

  • Assess a business’s exporting potential with an exporting audit
  • Develop and implement an exporting strategy
  • Manage and grow the exporting business
  • Connect the business with additional exporting resources

“KSBDC consultants continue to increase their skills and knowledge everyday,” said Becky Naugle, KSBDC state director. “Exporting is a real opportunity for many of our clients and I feel these new services will help them tremendously.”

Kentucky exports totaled $19.3 billion in 2010, 90 percent of which was generated by small and medium sized businesses. Exporting can help a small business increase its profit, ride out seasonal and regional fluctuations, reduce dependence on domestic market alone and extend shelf life of existing products.

The Kentucky Small Business Development Center, based at the University of Kentucky, is a network of 15 offices located throughout the state that help existing and start-up businesses succeed  by offering high quality, in-depth and hands-on services. The KSBDC is a partner program with the SBA. For more information on how the KSBDC can serve you, or to locate a center in your area, visit www.ksbdc.org.
