College of Public Health Students Volunteer at Kroger Field Vaccination Clinic

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 29, 2021) — The University of Kentucky College of Public Health had about 30 students, staff, and faculty volunteer at the UK COVID-19 vaccination clinic at Kroger Field on Saturday, March 20 and several others from the college have volunteered since the clinic opened in January. 

The UK Kroger Field COVID-19 vaccination clinic operates from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and depends on volunteers to provide the service to the community. Overall, UK HealthCare administers thousands of vaccinations each day of operations and was among the first to offer the vaccine to frontline health care workers, first responders, teachers and school personnel. 

“I am so proud of the many College of Public Health students, faculty, and staff who have volunteered to serve their community throughout the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Dean Donna K. Arnett. “As public health people, ensuring health equity is our passion and our purpose. While working at the Kroger Field vaccine clinic, our students are learning valuable real-world skills that will be essential in their future careers in public health and healthcare organizations. Most importantly, they are helping thousands of their fellow Kentuckians gain life- and health-saving protection from COVID-19.”

Representatives from the college participated by serving in roles including wayfinding and helping with registration.
