Presentations on Gender Identity, Sexual Orientation Offer Free CEUs

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 23, 2017) Eastern State Hospital and the Central Kentucky Recovery Center are sponsoring a presentation on gender identity and sexual orientation for behavioral health professionals Friday, Oct. 27.

Edward G. Johnson, director of training and technical assistance with the Southeast Addiction Technology Transfer Center, will give two identical presentations, from 9 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m., in the first-floor conference room of Eastern State Hospital at 1350 Bull Lea Rd. in Lexington.

Free nursing, social work and psychology continuing education units will be available.

LGBTQ individuals are a hidden minority in addiction and mental health treatment settings. They have issues that, when left unaddressed, can result in unsuccessful outcomes. This session will increase participants' knowledge of the issues facing LGBTQ individuals and increase their skills for recognizing and working with this population.
