7 Things You Should Know About Vaping
If you think vaping, Juuls, and e-cigarettes are healthier than smoking, think again. These products are just as addictive as cigarettes, and potentially just as dangerous. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
- That’s not water vapor! Juuls and other e-cigarettes heat nicotine to produce an aerosol with a mix of toxic gases.
- A single Juul pod has as much nicotine as one pack of cigarettes, or roughly 200 cigarette puffs. These products are addictive!
- Vaping is not a healthy alternative to smoking cigarettes – the products contain toxins and chemicals that may put you at risk for lung disease, cancer, and heart disease
- Your brain is still developing, and nicotine use can have long-term effects on brain development in people in their 20s.
- Exposing others to the secondhand aerosol from vaping devices may increase their risk of asthma attacks and respiratory illness.
- Juuls and other e-cigarettes are classified as tobacco products, and are prohibited on campus.
- Help is here! Stop by UHS and enroll in iQuit, a free program just for students to help you quit vaping and/or quit using any tobacco product.
