LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 15, 2018) — The University of Kentucky campus may seem quiet during the summer, but the staff were busy preparing for the beginning of a new school year and the arrival of students. UK Dining, UK Campus Housing, Auxiliary Services and Residence Life are just a few departments that work hard throughout the summer months in anticipation of welcoming Wildcats to campus.
UK Dining spent the summer break preparing several new dining facilities for their grand openings. In addition to Champions Kitchen, which opened in January, Chick-fil-A, Panda Express, Subway and Auntie Anne’s have opened in the new Gatton Student Center. Additionally, UK Dining has many other dining venues that are ready to serve students. To learn more about dining, visit https://uky.campusdish.com.
UK's housing teams do a lot to prepare for the school year during the summer. From conducting routine maintenance to painting, they spend time making sure that the residence halls are ready when residents begin the move in process. They also map out logistics so that residents have a swift and comfortable Move-In experience. This includes making sure that housing assignments are in order. Additionally, a fall calendar of events is developed to support student success. Up, Up and UK; Goat Yoga; and the Films on the House Late Night Film Series are just a few that are on the fall 2018 schedule.
UK Residence Life and resident directors teams have planned and trained resident advisors to welcome students into their on-campus homes and to make each student's experience living on campus the best it can be. To learn more about their work, visit the website for residence life.
Each of these offices are meant to be used as resources to students. To learn more about their services, visit www.uky.edu/housing.
For many, summer is a time to slow down, get a break from school and maybe take a vacation. At the University of Kentucky, summer is when our faculty, staff, clinicians and students prepare for a new school year, conduct research, treat patients and gain experience through internships and service work. Class may not be in session, but at UK we never slow down.
