Fraternity Raising Money for Muscular Dystrophy
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 25, 2009) – UK's chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity is helping to raise awareness of Duchenne muscular dystrophy this weekend through the national philanthropy project, Coach to Cure MD.
Coach To Cure MD is a partnership between the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), a professional organization for more than 10,000 college football coaches and staff, and Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD), the largest national charity devoted exclusively to Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
"Our plan is to educate people about this disease and to raise money for the cause on Sept. 26 during the Florida game," Lee O'Connor, PIKE president, said. "We will be setting up close to the stadium and walking around trying to collect money and handing out flyers for the event. The flyers will have a short summary of the philanthropy and the disease as well as a number to text to give a donation."
That same night, the Penguin Dueling Piano Bar, will contribute $1 out of their $5 dollar cover charge to the cause.
