Lexington, Ky. (Sept. 10, 2010) – The MTV Video Music Awards (VMA) is an annual show that draws in millions of viewers and this year, there’s a place on campus for you to view the VMA’s hosted by Chelsea Handler! Grab your friends and come to the VMA viewing party from 8:30 to 11 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 12 on the 3rd floor of the Commons Complex. This event is sponsored by the Student Activities Board (SAB).

The cable network MTV celebrates the top music videos of the year by awarding a MTV Video Music Award. First awarded at the end of the summer of 1984, as an alternative to the Grammys, by 2002, a VMA had become a coveted award. They are presented annually and broadcast live on MTV. The statue given to winners is a moon man, one of the earliest representations of MTV.

From Britney’s kiss with Madonna to Brüno landing on Eminem’s face, the VMA’s have always been entertaining, shocking and never boring. We guarantee that Moon Men will be awarded, free food consumed and VMA themed games played as students socialize and watch the 2010 VMAs together.

“You don’t want to be the person that didn’t watch or know what happened at the show,” said Chelsea Melchor, director of the SAB Pop Culture Committee. “Trust me, everyone will be talking about it!”

This event is free.
