'Why We Love Hip-Hop' Fashion Show Tonight

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 28, 2011) — Bust out your high top sneakers and your gold chains because it’s time for a show, a hip-hop fashion show to be exact. The Why We Love Hip-Hop Series Fashion Show is tonight, Monday, Feb. 28 at 7p.m. in the Cats Den. This event is free and sponsored by the Student Activities Board (SAB).

The Fashion Show will take you through the timeline of Hip-Hop fashion from the 1970s to current trends. Volunteers and members of SAB will be modeling in the show. This is the second event for the Why We Love Hip-Hop Series, a series that brings hip-hip to the forefront through exciting topics, speakers and events.

“Hip-Hop has always had a huge place in setting fashion trends," said Jasmine Whitlow, director of the SAB Multicultural Affairs Committee. “Just look at Flava Flav and his clock necklace, Run DMC and gold chains or even Nelly and his band-aid! Fashion is an important facet to the hip-hop culture and community and we’re really excited to be showcasing it for students.”

The Student Activities Board (SAB) brings more than 100 events to the University of Kentucky annually that enhance the college experience by providing students, other members of the campus and the Lexington community with entertaining, educational or enriching programs that are reflective of contemporary issues and trends.
