LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 6, 2026) — The University of Kentucky Police Department (UKPD) will host an Active Aggressor Training 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, in Gatton Student Center’s Worsham Cinema. The training is open to all UK students, faculty, staff and members of the Lexington community.

“While our mission is to keep our campus safe and secure, we know that safety is a shared responsibility,” said UK Police Chief Joe Monroe. “It is crucial that we prepare for the unthinkable — as difficult as it may be — to protect ourselves and the lives of those around us.”

The training is based on the nationally recognized “Run, Hide, Fight” approach and will provide participants with practical guidance on situational awareness, response options and personal safety strategies during critical incidents.

The session will be led by UKPD Community Service Officer Brandon White, who is a certified instructor through Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT). In 2013, ALERRT was designated by the FBI as the national standard for active aggressor response training and is recognized for its research-based approach.

Everyone is encouraged to RSVP in advance to attend. UK students, faculty and staff should RSVP through BBNvolved

Lexington community members attending can RSVP online
