Valentine's Day Music to Fill the Air at UK Chandler Hospital
LEXINGTON, KY (Feb. 13, 2013) - Employees and visitors at UK Chandler Hospital on Valentine's Day will be treated to special holiday-themed performances in the hospital's Pavilion A atrium.
The performance starts at 11 a.m. with UK employee and volunteer musician Ed Younce performing love songs on piano.
Younce, a Richmond native who has worked in UK's Department of Radiology for three years, enjoys playing at the hospital for special holidays. Outside of UK, Younce plays at weddings and other special occasions. He particular enjoys playing songs by Frank Sinatra.
"Art in Healing goes beyond just the patient," Younce said. "When I am playing, I will have patients, patient guests and employees stop and listen. If my music can bring calm to any of these people and their mood, I feel as if I have added more than just my basic care as an employee. I do not care for cheers or applause, but just for the thought that my playing has brought a positive and warm feeling to the healing process."
At noon, Millie Fields and students from the School for the Creative and Performance Arts (SCAPA) in Lexington, will sing and perform dance routines. The students from SCAPA also recently visited the UK Chandler Hospital to present songs in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King.
At 2 p.m., UK Gill Heart Institute's Dr. Vincent Sorrell will perform a piano recital as a fundraiser for Gill's American Heart Association Heart Walk. The performance will also be in the UK Chandler Hospital's Pavilion A. Sorrell will play until 2:30 p.m. Sorrell's "tips" will go to the AHA Heart Walk.
