UK Discusses Collaboration with University in India

of

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 22, 2010) − University of Kentucky administrators welcome Dr. Rajasekharan Warrier, Vice Chancellor of Manipal University, to campus today with hopes of pursuing opportunities for comprehensive collaboration between the two universities.

"Internationalization is a critical element of our top 20 strategic plan,"  Dr. Kumble R. Subbaswamy said. "Forming a strong partnership with the largest private university in India will bring greater opportunities for our students and faculty to become global citizens."

A presentation ceremony is planned for 10 a.m. today, Friday, Jan. 22, 2010, at the Kentucky Clinic to make a gift presentation of a videoconference system to Manipal University. This gift, made possible by a donation through the University of Kentucky and Polycom, would enhance the partnership and increase the possibility of a health center alliance for pediatric and family medicine residents to make rounds at the children's wards at Manipal Hospital.

"In order to work together, we felt it was important that videoconference technology was readily available to the Manipal University faculty and students in health-related colleges," said Rob Sprang, director UK's HealthCare Kentucky TeleCare Network.

The University of Kentucky currently has a memorandum of understanding and cooperative agreement with Manipal University through International Affairs within UK's Provost Office.
