UK Faculty Can Use Academic Alerts to Aid Student Success

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 2, 2020) University of Kentucky faculty are being asked to submit an academic alert if they have any concerns about a student’s performance following the first round of exams this spring semester. In UK’s ongoing efforts to support student success, the academic alert system is an important way to connect with students who may be encountering obstacles to academic success. It allows student affairs professionals to intervene now before it’s too late.

“Following a recent reminder, we appreciated the increase in the number of academic alerts submitted by faculty,” said Associate Provost for Academic and Student Affairs Kirsten Turner. “Now we are asking for faculty assistance again. As you finish up the first round of exams, we want to remind you to consider submitting an academic alert if you have students who may be getting off track in your class, either by not attending class regularly, not turning in homework, or not performing well on assignments and exams.”

For questions on how to submit an alert, click on the Alert Guide. Further, if you teach a course with enrollment of more than 100 students, you may use the features available in the myUK Class Roster, or you may use the template found in Faculty & Staff Resources on the ACT webpage to submit bulk alerts. As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.

In 2022, UK was ranked by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads” and named a “Diversity Champion” by INSIGHT into Diversity, a testament to our commitment to advance Kentucky and create a community of belonging for everyone. While our mission looks different in many ways than it did in 1865, the vision of service to our Commonwealth and the world remains the same. We are the University for Kentucky.
