UK Women’s Forum Seeking Board Member Nominations

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 1, 2021)  The University of Kentucky Women’s Forum is seeking board members for the 2021-2023 term. The UK Women's Forum is an organization for all employees of the university, both faculty and staff. Since the beginning, the UK Women's Forum (UKWF) has existed to create an equitable community at the university. As the role of women in the workplace continues to evolve, UKWF's commitment remains the same: creating space to discuss relevant issues and using collective problem solving and educational opportunities to empower and champion women.

Nominations for the Women's Forum board are open now through April 30, 2021.

Self-nominations are welcome from any employee interested in championing women’s issues at UK. Alternatively, you may reach out to someone else you think would make an excellent candidate and encourage them to self-nominate. The nomination form can be found here. Specifically, the Women’s Forum is looking for individuals who can contribute a variety of skills and experience including event planning, fundraising, communication, social media marketing, website design, public relations and program development. Each board member will have the opportunity to grow and develop their leadership capacity while serving on the board.

There are many other exciting reasons to join:

  • Being among outstanding individuals who dedicate themselves to making UK a better place to work.
  • Enhancing leadership and teamwork skills.
  • Participating in networking opportunities with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Celebrating the uniqueness of all women at UK.
  • Continuing the success of our long standing Sarah Bennett Holmes Award and Luncheon.
  • Developing new contributions to the annual Women’s Forum Conference.
  • Participating in the Employee Educational Assistance Awards program, which bestows scholarships for continuing education among UK employees.

Nominees will be placed on a ballot for campuswide voting along with the UK Staff Senate elections May 10-21, 2021. Those elected will serve a two-year term beginning Tuesday, June 15, at the all-day Women’s Forum board retreat (subject to change due to COVID-19). Nominations should include a 500-word platform statement and headshot. Additional details regarding member expectations can be found on the nomination form.

UKWF is hosting an informal “Meet & Greet” taking place via Zoom at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, and has also partnered with Staff Senate to host a Q&A session on Facebook Live in April. To stay up to date with the UK Women’s Forum, connect with the board on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. To join the email listserv, request access by emailing ukwf@uky.edu.

Any questions about the election process may be directed to UKWF Chair-elect Alli Lake at alli.lake@uky.edu.

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.

In 2022, UK was ranked by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads” and named a “Diversity Champion” by INSIGHT into Diversity, a testament to our commitment to advance Kentucky and create a community of belonging for everyone. While our mission looks different in many ways than it did in 1865, the vision of service to our Commonwealth and the world remains the same. We are the University for Kentucky.
