McDaniel, Musselman Pace Wildcats to Second Place

Final ResultsLOXLEY, Ala. – Behind top-10 finishes from the junior tandem of Tyler “Chip” McDaniel and Cooper Musselman the Kentucky men’s golf team capped the fall slate in stylish fashion with a second-place finish at the Steelwood Intercollegiate on Sunday. McDaniel carded his third-straight top-10 finish on the individual leaderboard, while Musselman scored his fourth-straight top-20 finish and second-straight top-10. Kentucky’s second-place finish is the best of the fall season for the 2016-17 Wildcats. UK posted three top-five finishes out of four tournaments this fall, with the Cats placing sixth in the other. UK will return to action in February for its spring slate. Up first for the Wildcats once the calendar turns to 2017 is the Puerto Rico Classic, Feb. 19-21.  What Head Coach Brian Craig is Saying:“This was the inaugural Steelwood Intercollegiate and it was a home run. Even though we played mediocre at best, the guys loved the event and especially the golf course. Steelwood was basically perfect. I love this team. Our upside is huge. We definitely have a few areas to address in the offseason and early spring, but I love what we are capable of. We are deep and we are talented. When it comes together, it is going to be fun.”About the lineup:McDaniel scored his third-straight top-10 finish with a 4-under, 68 in today’s round. It was just one stroke off of his season-low round. McDaniel opened the day with birdies on the first and third holes. A pair of bogeys bookended a birdie on the par-four fifth. From there, however, the Manchester, Kentucky native played flawless golf. He was 3-under par over his final 13 holes of play, including a red number on the par-three 12th. Musselman was equally impressive with his best round of the Steelwood Intercollegiate. The Louisville, Kentucky native tied for seventh for his second-straight top-10 finish. He is the lone Wildcat to score a top-20 finish in all four tournaments. Musselman did not commit a single error in today’s round and provided three birdie efforts for the 3-under, 69. He had a birdie on the sixth, 10th and 15th holes for his stellar outing. Sophomore Lukas Euler appeared in two fall tournaments and notched top-20 finishes in both. Euler placed in a tie for 17th following a 3-over, 75, over the final 18 holes of play. Euler began the tournament with a season-low 69 to aid his cause. His round today featured a 2-under score over the final five holes including the par-five 18th to conclude his day in stylish fashion. Sophomore Fadhli Soetarso, playing as an individual, placed in a tie for 24th following back-to-back rounds of par, 72. Soetarso had three top-30 finishes in the fall slate in his first competition as a Wildcat. Soetarso’s round was highlighted by three birdies on the day.Sophomore Fred Allen Meyer ended the fall season with a birdie on the 18th to post a final round of 76 to move his standing into a tie for 36th. Senior Stephen Stallings placed in a tie for 41st following a final round of 76. Freshman Allen Hamilton carded an 84 and concluded the weekend in 52nd.The Tournament Field:The Wildcats combined for a 2-under day to move into sole possession of second place. Kennesaw State claimed the tournament crown with a three-round total of 27-under par. South Florida finished one stroke back of the Wildcats, while South Alabama and Richmond rounded out the top five. Up Next for Kentucky:UK will return to action in February for its spring slate.
